We had a great trip to Washington D.C. with the boys. They loved it SO much and we've made a list of the things we still want to see on a future trip some day.
The boys loved the hotel-stay this year since they got their own room next to us. Brady always called us to check on dinner times, etc when we'd go back to the rooms to rest and change for the evening. We always answered, "Yes, Brady?" and then follow up with the fact he could walk ten steps and just ask, but he liked pretending he was in his own apartment. That kid!
Jax never called us once. So that tells me a lot of how the teen-years are going to go...
We saw some museums (not nearly enough!), many monuments, memorials and national points of interest. We had a trolley tour one afternoon for the hero sights, which was the coolest way to get around. We wandered into a restaurant in China Town that ended up being really yummy Chinese food, and even just wandered at sun set for some gelato. So even with the hustle and bustle of all the conference events, we still found time to wander around with nowhere to be, which is usually our favorite way to vacation.
All was good and well until the last night when Brady came in our room at 3am saying he was sick. Oy... he was vomiting so Jay slept next to him, while I took Jax out hoping it hadn't already been spread.
By the morning, we had very little choice of how to get home since flights weren't coordinating into our schedule, so we went for it knowing it was only a 90 min flight home. Well... Brady slept pretty much the entire flight, but not without getting pretty sick while we were on the tarmac to take off. There was a bathroom situation with Brady and I throwing away his shorts and underwear, and we'll leave it at that. h.o.r.r.i.b.l.e.
So, we made it home, YAY! Then as we had two days to turn around and get back on the road to head up north to the cottage, I fell ill to B's bug. YUCK. It was quick, but horrible. By Saturday, I was recouping and we made the decision to get up north since I could always relax up there.
It was so fun!!
For a day.
Jax started puking in the night, so Jay and I were up all night helping him and keeping him away from the other kids. By 6am, we had to get him into an ER. I didn't have anyway to check his blood sugar, but knew he was still ok at the time since he had dinner, and a full night of tube-feeding before his vomiting started, but I still wanted it checked and to get him some support before an emergency was on our hands.
The ER visit was pretty amazing. They got his blood work done, and he was hooked up to IV meds and some fluid. The blood results showed he was starting dehydration and the doc said we came in at the perfect time to get the vomiting shut off and get him nice and hydrated. They gave me some dissolvable Zofran (I had the hard pills that I was trying to grind up and syringe in, which wasn't working).
We were out of there within 2 hours and we got back to the cottage and packed up and got out like thieves in the night!! I was SO nervous that we had officially brought the GI bug into the cottage around the Garber family, that I was BESIDES myself upset about it. Thankfully, Jax was the last victim and no one else was affected, WHEW!
Although, the doc did say, Jax could've been vomiting from bacteria in the lake getting thru his g-tube but since there was a GI bug in the house, it was most likely that. Jax's tummy has taken a week to get back to normal. I forget how long it takes him to bounce back compared to a typical kid. I'm just starting to get him back to regular nightly feeds now. His appetite has just started bouncing back too, so it's nice to see him EAT again! I don't think he'll make his goal weight of 50lbs for his birthday now tho.
We've been enjoying a calm week of summer. The boys started swim camp and they're in their final week of league-baseball playing each night in a tournament. They are also in a major countdown to their birthday for Friday. Which... I'm waiting to see if they keep winning in this tournament or not if I have to cancel their bowling party for Friday night. Ahhhh little boys, ce la vie...
I have a bunch of D.C. and cottage photos, enjoy!
